About Saffron Artisan Studios

Saffron Artisan Studios is personal to the owner of the company for many reasons.

Our founder is originally from Iran and saffron has traditionally been used in the Middle East for many years to add colour and flavour to food, for its medicinal and healing properties, and for dyes used in the arts. Saffron is a spice extract from the flower Crocus Sativus, commonly known as the "Saffron Crocus". Crocus Sativus is a difficult flower to grow and requires a team of trained, highly skilled people to cultivate, grow and harvest the flowers. It then takes 75,000 flowers to make a pound of saffron! Due to this labour intensity and it's high quality, saffron is a premium spice, that is expensive to buy.

At Saffron Artisan Studios, we recognise that some artists and craftspeople struggle to get the recognition they deserve for their work. Much like the workers growing, harvesting and producing saffron, our team is dedicated to using our training, skills and expertise to give equal opportunities to artists and craftspeople who face more barriers than most. Art is influenced by experience and those who have overcome barriers, such as disability and immigration, often have a unique perspective and outlook on life that shapes their creations. We therefore offer a platform that showcases premium masterpieces and premium people so those stories can be told. Why not join us on the journey?
